New York woman hit and killed by drunk driver

Posted by Joseph F. Sullivan | Jan 26, 2014 | 0 Comments

Despite the constant education provided to the public against the dangers of driving drunk, it is still a problem in cities all across the country. Many drivers who choose to drive while intoxicated seem to believe that they won't hurt anyone; however, the simple truth is that far too many people are hurt or killed by those who choose to drive while under the influence. Sadly, a recent accident in New York, caused by an alleged drunk driver, claimed the life a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 32-year-old female, was crossing a local street in the early evening when she was struck by a car. She was rushed by emergency crews to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver, a 28-year-old male, is believed to have been driving while intoxicated at the time of the accident. It was also reported that he had two children in his car. Thankfully, both children were not injured in the incident. The driver was arrested and is facing charges of DWI and for not having a license.

The effects a drunk driver can have on the community can be tragic and far-reaching. This event may cause emotional and financial struggles for the victim's surviving family members, as they now try to cover the unexpected medical and funeral expenses. They may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver on behalf of the victim. If liability is affirmed, a New York civil court could award them financial compensation for their loss.
